Experts Warn the Studio Ghibli AI Trend Is a Hidden Privacy Risk

Experts Warn the Studio Ghibli AI Trend Is a Hidden Privacy Risk

The Studio Ghibli AI trend is all over the internet. From politicians to influencers, every single person is transforming their photos with ChatGPT.  However, cybersecurity experts caution users about the privacy dangers of sharing personal images on these AI (artificial intelligence) platforms.

The surge in this trend began with OpenAI’s GPT-4o, which allows users to transform their personal photos in the distinctive artistic style of Studio Ghibli. While the tools simplify this transformation with captivating results, several analysts caution that the terms of service and data handling practices could pose significant privacy risks for users.

Many cybersecurity experts have pointed out that even when platforms say they don’t keep images or erase them after viewing, what “deletion” actually means isn’t always clear, it doesn’t specify one meaning.

Without clear rules, it is not clear whether photos disappear right after producing results or stay there for longer than expected.

Vishal Salvi from Quick Heal Technologies points out that hidden inside each photo is extra info, like exactly where you took it, when, and even what kind of phone you used. This “extra info,” called metadata, can accidentally reveal things about you that you might want to keep private.

The AI that makes these image changes uses a special method to separate your photo from an artist’s style. Then, it combines them. Even though it looks innocent, this process isn’t totally safe.

Salvi said, “Even if companies claim they don’t store your photos, fragments of your data might still end up in their systems,” he says. “Uploaded images can definitely be repurposed for unintended uses, like training AI models for surveillance or targeted advertising.”

Pratim Mukherjee, Senior Director of Engineering at McAfee warns turning your photos into cool art is super easy and fun, but it can also come with some sneaky problems you might not see right away.

Mukherjee said, “Eye-catching results and viral filters create an experience that feels light and effortless, but it often comes with hidden privacy risks.”

With $1.4 Billion in Private AI Investment, India Holds the 10th Rank Globally: UN Report

With $1.4 Billion in Private AI Investment, India Holds the 10th Rank Globally: UN Report

According to a UN report, India and China are the sole developing nations demonstrating substantial private AI investment in 2023, with India securing the 10th rank globally.

Out of 170 countries assessed in the report, India now ranks 36th in its readiness for frontier technologies, marking an advancement from its ranking in the preceding year.

The 2025 UNCTAD Technology and Innovation Report reveals India’s progress in ‘Readiness for Frontier Technologies, ‘ with its ranking improving from 48th in 2022 to 36th in 2024.

This composite index evaluates technology readiness based on ICT (Information and Communication Technology) deployment, skill levels, R&D activity, industrial capacity, and access to finance.

India demonstrates strong potential in research and development (3rd) and a solid industrial base (10th), but its technology readiness is hampered by lower rankings in ICT deployment (99th), skills development (113th), and access to finance (70th).

The report stated that increased schooling and high-skill employment boosted human capital in Bhutan, India, Morocco, Moldova, and Timor-Leste. It also recognised China, Germany, India, the UK, and the US for their scientific strength in AI. The US dominates private AI investment, attracting $67 billion in 2023, a massive 70% of the global amount.

The UN report highlighted China (2nd with $7.8B) and India (10th with $1.4B) as the only developing nations making significant strides in private AI investment. The report also projected the AI market to surge to $4.8 trillion by 2033, highlighting its pivotal role in digital transformation.

The report indicated that among developing countries, Brazil, China, India, and the Philippines are performing particularly well in terms of technology readiness.

India's Workforce Can Adapt to AI, No Need to Fear Job Losses, Says S Krishnan

India’s Workforce Can Adapt to AI, No Need to Fear Job Losses, Says S Krishnan

S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), believes that the Indian workforce can adapt to AI (artificial intelligence). Despite evolving demands brought by this cutting-edge technology, he believes that the Indian workforce possesses a strong ability to adapt and learn new skills.

He suggests a confident outlook regarding the impact of AI on the Indian workforce. Krishnan argues that the significant job losses fear due to AI is unnecessary. He truly believes that the workforce can easily adjust to new responsibilities and roles that will emerge with AI technology in the future.

Krishnan says that India might not face the same level of job displacement as other countries. Due to the distinct structure of India’s economy, with a large percentage of people working in various sectors, AI will augment the operations rather than replace them. Also, there will be a great need for human resources in many roles.

“India is Outpacing the World in AI Adoption," Claims Sam Altman

“India is Outpacing the World in AI Adoption,” Claims Sam Altman

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that India’s adoption rate of AI (artificial intelligence) is very impressive.

On April 2, 2025, Altman made a statement in a post on X, saying, “What’s happening with AI adoption in India right now is amazing to watch. We love to see the explosion of creativity- India is outpacing the world.”

Altman made a statement in a post on X

This remark came shortly after OpenAI launched a ChatGPT feature that turns photos into Studio Ghibli-style images. This feature has gone viral, particularly in India, leading to a massive surge in ChatGPT usage. Altman himself noted that OpenAI gained a million new users in just one hour right after this particular update.

Back in February, Altman emphasised that India is a vital market, both for the advancement of AI and for OpenAI’s success. He expressed his altered views on India’s AI potential, from hopeless to incredible.

He first said India’s development of a ChatGPT-level model was “totally hopeless,” then explained he meant it would be difficult to compete on cost with established players in foundational AI.

He said, “That was a very specific time when there was a certain scaling thing. I still think that to stay on that frontier of pre-training models is expensive. We are now in a world where we made incredible progress with distillation. These reasoning models in particular, it’s not cheap. It’s still expensive to train them, but it’s doable. I think that’s going to lead to an explosion of really great creativity and India should be a leader there”.

He said India is the second biggest market for OpenAI as its users tripled in the last year.

Meta's AI Research Head Joelle Pineau Resigns After Eight Years

Meta’s AI Research Head Joelle Pineau Resigns After Eight Years

Meta’s vice president for AI research, Joelle Pineau, said she is leaving the company at the end of May after working 8 years for it.

Amidst the rapidly increasing competition in AI development, the head of AI research at Meta announced her departure from a high-profile position at the Instagram and Facebook company.

In her social media post, she wrote, “Today, as the world undergoes significant change, as the race for AI accelerates, and as Meta prepares for its next chapter, it is time to create space for others to pursue the work”.

Meta did not immediately respond to an emailed inquiry about Joelle Pineau’s decision to step down. Pineau herself has not yet announced who will take over her role.

Situated in Montreal, where Pineau also holds a professorship in computer science at McGill University, she was a key figure in Meta’s open-source AI strategy, notably with their Llama language model.

The announcement of Pineau’s departure comes before Meta’s inaugural LlamaCon AI conference on April 29th. Her leadership of Meta’s AI research began in 2023; this group, originally called Facebook AI Research, was founded ten years earlier by figures like the groundbreaking AI researcher Yann LeCun. Despite leaving his position as the group’s director in 2018, LeCun is still Meta’s chief AI scientist.

A class 10 Student Made Over ₹1.5 lakh in 2 Months Building AI Websites, Claims Redditor

A class 10 Student Made Over ₹1.5 lakh in 2 Months Building AI Websites, Claims Redditor

Amid the job-loss fear arising from increasing implementation of AI (artificial intelligence), a Reddit post went viral about a Class 10 student in India, nicknamed “Musk” on the platform, making money with AI.

This kid used an AI website builder, spent just ₹2,500 and made over ₹1.5 lakh in two months by building and selling eight websites for around $250-$300 each.

According to the Reddit post, the founder of the AI platform, who spotted “Musk’s” success via user data, was impressed by the student’s hustle. “He was using our platform almost daily, buying credits, and building websites for small businesses. I got curious and checked his profile- turns out, he’s just a school student!”

What makes this story even interesting is that “Musk” isn’t a programmer. He’s just a creative and curious individual who saw AI not as a threat but as an opportunity to generate income by tapping into local and online networks.

The student was a regular user of Reddit who purchased credits and built websites frequently. By spending a nominal amount of ₹2,500 (approximately $30) on the AI-powered website builder platform, he earned more than ₹1.5 lakh within two months.

This student reached out to local businesses, social platforms, and Reddit communities proactively to find clients for his websites.

MeitY Received Over 187 Proposals for Developing Large Language Models Under the IndiaAI Mission

MeitY Received Over 187 Proposals for Developing Large Language Models Under the IndiaAI Mission

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MietY) disclosed that researchers, entrepreneurs, and startups have responded enthusiastically to the IndiaAI mission. It has received around 187 proposals focused on creating homegrown large language models (LLMs).

Abhishek Singh, additional secretary at MietY, revealed that 187 proposals were submitted following a Call for Proposals launched on January 30, 2025.

At the Nano Electronics Roadshow and Conference on Semiconductor Ecosystem, Singh said, “We had received 67 initial proposals by Feb 15, followed by an additional 120 proposals by March 15”.

Through a call for proposals, the IndiaAI initiative seeks to develop foundational AI (artificial intelligence) models, encompassing both LLMs and SLMs, within the country.

V. Narayanan, ISRO Chairman, who was a participant in the roadshow and conference, highlighted the importance of further indigenisation.

He said, “If you talk about a launch vehicle, 90% of it is indigenous and 10% is imported and out of that 10% imported items, 90% is electronics. You must have a roadmap to ensure that this drops to under 10%”.

The overwhelming response to the IndiaAI mission reflects the country’s ambition for leadership and self-reliance.

According to Bill Gates, AI Will Replace Most Jobs, Except These Three

According to Bill Gates, AI Will Replace Most Jobs, Except These Three

Since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in 2022, AI has remarkably impacted our thinking and daily practices. Despite AI chatbots currently serving as helping hands in many workplaces, professionals are anxious about potential job losses across different fields.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who last month predicted that AI would take over most tasks, has now shared his perspective on future-proof careers amidst the increasing global integration of this cutting-edge technology.

While figures such as NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang and OpenAI’s Sam Altman anticipate coding jobs being quickly impacted by AI, Bill Gates believes humans will still have a key role in many sectors.

The 69-year-old Gates sees AI as a valuable tool for biologists in areas like diagnosis and DNA analysis, but it lacks the creative insight for discoveries, so it won’t replace them. He also stated that AI wouldn’t replace energy experts due to the intricate nature of this field.

As generative AI is progressing rapidly, several leaders repeatedly point out its huge impact on work, which will exceed human capabilities in some fields.

According to Gates, the future looks a bit relaxing for those in coding, energy, and biology. However, for the rest of the professionals, the rising AI integration across sectors indicates immediate upskilling and innovation. We can anticipate an era where AI will not be a helper but a competitor.
