98% of Indian Business Leaders Support AI, But Talent is Scarce Says LinkedIn Report

98% of Indian Business Leaders Support AI, But Talent is Scarce Says LinkedIn Report

A recent LinkedIn report states that 98% of Indian business leaders support AI (artificial intelligence) adoption in 2025 but HRs are unable to find individuals with the right skills.

Indian employers find that at least 50% of job applications fail to meet minimum qualifications. This indicates a significant mismatch between applicant skills and job requirements. In addition, it suggests either a lack of applicant attention to job details or a desperate search for employment.

The report said, “Finding candidates with the right technical (61 per cent) and soft skills (57 per cent) remains their biggest hiring challenge”.

LinkedIn in the report said, “HR professionals in India also state they receive too many applications (47 per cent) from candidates who are not a fit for the role (41 per cent) and are hiring more selectively in 2025. More than half of HR professionals in India say they would only consider reaching out to (55 per cent) and hiring (54 per cent) candidates who meet 80% or more of job qualifications”.

Every learning and development professional surveyed confirms the equal importance of soft and technical skills. According to a global survey of 1,271 recruiting professionals across 23 countries, 48% of Indian leaders prioritise investing in AI training and development.

Ruchee Anand, India Country Head, Talent & Learning Solutions, LinkedIn said “Too often, companies pour resources into AI tools without the right talent to unlock their full potential, turning a game-changing opportunity into a missed one. To break this cycle, businesses need to approach hiring with a skills-first mindset”.

Non-tech Indian Graduates are Facing Challenges in the Job Market Due to AI

The growing integration of AI (artificial intelligence) in India is making it challenging for non-tech graduates to adapt to the AI-driven job market. Although increasing adoption of this technology demands workers, their non-technical skills lead to less employability.

With the increasing influence of artificial intelligence, the job market in India is undergoing a massive change. The rate of employability among non-technical graduates has sharply dropped from 44.3% in 2023 to 42.6%.

Siddhartha Gupta, President of Mercer India, said, “The India’s Graduate Skill Index 2025 provides a comprehensive analysis of job readiness among Indian graduates, based on an extensive evaluation of over 1 million students spanning 2,800 skill sets’’.

“While technical roles are seeing improved employability, developing non-technical and soft skills remains a challenge that requires urgent attention”, he added.

Although nearly 50% of graduates possess strong communication, leadership and critical thinking skills, a substantial gap exists in creativity. This is a big concern as creativity is vital for navigating the automation-driven job market.

Experts emphasise the need for innovative thinking and improved problem-solving skills to keep non-tech graduates relevant in India.

While increasing AI adoption comes with challenges, non-technical graduates can still build a promising career path. They can pick fields like sales/business development and financial analysis as they have the highest rate of employability among non-tech sectors, with 45.3% and 45.4%, respectively.
